Ashten Dick
My name is Ashten Dick! Yes, that is my real last name and despite popular opinion, I surprisingly love the name! It is unforgettable and I want to be remembered!
I am married to the most hard working and caring man, Caleb Dick. We were college sweethearts and have been inseparable ever since. We have a red headed three year old boy named Levi and we recently had a beautiful baby girl in April. We live in sweet home Alabama and have a goldendoodle named Bogie, a black cat named Binx, and a tabby cat named Bella.
I am a first grade teacher and absolutely love my job. I feel called to teach and believe each child has been divinely placed in my classroom for a reason. They are more than students but rather my “children.” Teaching may be one of the most challenging jobs but it is by far the most rewarding!
My husband works in music at our church. We are actively involved in all things church related and love our people, friends, and family in our church community. Caleb also recently graduated law school and passed the bar exam after working tirelessly for five years! Not to mention he’s also a talented musician and frequently plays gigs on the side of work, school, fatherhood, and marriage.
On top of my husband’s busy life and my own busy life, we decided to add babies in the mix! Levi was born 10 lbs 3 oz with the same angel kiss birth mark on his forehead that his mama also had as a baby! He is full of joy, life, and laughter and is a bright light in this world’s darkness. He has bright red curly hair, is over the 100th percentile in both weight and height, screams at pitches we never knew existed, and has a loud and crazy personality, making him impossible to be overlooked. In fact, he loves an audience and refuses to go unnoticed. We refer to him as Dr. Jeckle and Mr. Hyde because he can so easily switch between two alternate natures of happy or mad without warning. He keeps us on our toes, both figuratively and literally, but we could not be more in love with our sweet boy!
Reagan was born 10 lbs 13 oz, beating her brother’s large birth weight! She is absolutely gorgeous with big blue eyes, sweet chunky cheeks, and a head full of hair. Her cry is adorable and she grunts like a little piglet. We are still getting to know her personality, but so far she has a sweet disposition. She seems to be much more chill than her brother was as a baby, giving off a very relaxed vibe. We can’t wait to see all her little character start to blossom over the next months. We could not be more in love with our little princess!
My life is truly a balancing act. We are pulled in every different direction with parenthood, marriage, school, work, church, friends, family, and more. It is not put together or perfect by any means, but rather a perfect example of chaos, mess, and exhaustion. It may feel like a free-for-all at times, but my life is blessed beyond measure and I could not be more thankful. I am hopeful that this blog can be a safe haven where I am able to express my thoughts and feelings from the varied past and present experiences in my life. There is nothing more therapeutic than getting everything out of my head and heart and onto something tangible. Instead of keeping it to myself, however, I have felt called to begin sharing what little I have to offer for anyone who wishes to join in. My prayer is that you leave this blog feeling a little more encouraged than when you came!
